Birds, sea & shore: Dotterel: New Zealand Dotterel, Rangitoto
A northern New Zealand dotterel, Charadrius obscurus aquilonius, or tuturiwhatu. It puts one foot forward and shakes it around under the mud, then pounces on any invertebrates that try to escape in alarm. About 27cm long.
