A northern New Zealand dotterel, Charadrius obscurus aquilonius, or tuturiwhatu. Sadly they are endangered because they nest in sand dunes or next to the beach, so their nests are often disturbed by people or crushed by vehicles and are subject to predation from the introduced mammals. About 27cm long.
