Paratutae Island
Whatipu: Paratutae Island
In the late 1800s and early 1900s there was a wharf on this side of the island, where ships loaded up with the timber that had been cut out of the ranges. Considering that they only had sail power and that the island is right in the harbour entrance, which is a place of turbulent currents and shifting sand bars, they must have been tough and determined.
