| Waitakere Dam and falls seen from the tramline. The falls drop 107 metres from a pool at the base of the dam into the valley below. They were a popular tourist attraction in Victorian times and were known by Maori as Awa Kotuku, due to their resemblance to the tail feathers of the white heron or kotuku. Now their appearance depends on the dam overflowing. |
