Motukorea: North Head and Devonport
North Head is a volcanic (and once fortified) headland at the mouth of the Waitemata Harbour. Waitemata is commonly translated as 'sparkling waters', but it can also mean water as smooth as the surface of obsidian (a black volcanic glass).
