Whirinaki: Pumice Cave
Geology: Whirinaki: Pumice Cave
This is a reasonably extensive cave, carved by water action out of the layers of pumice that blanketed the area as a result of volcanic activity in the central North Island thousands of years ago, with the most recent being the cataclysmic eruption of Taupo in about 180 AD.
