Maori Leap Cave: Stalactites
Geology: Maori Leap Cave: Stalactites
Stalactites stained with iron oxide. The black lines in the limestone behind are deposits of chert or flint, formed from the skeletons of millions of tiny plankton-like radiolarians that build (or built in this case) their skeletons with silica rather than calcium.
