Plants, trees: Beech: Black Beech, St Arnaud
Nothofagus solandri or tawhai rauriki. Distinguished by small rounded leaves with no serrations, and named for the sooty mould that often covers its trunk due to honeydew from scale insects. Here at about 600 metres beside Lake Rotoiti.
