| The Ngapuhi Maori who originally lived here called the island Hawere. The government bought it off their descendents in 1971 and now it's part of the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park. There are great diving spots all around the island. You can just see Alphabet Bay on the west (left-hand) side of the island. |
