Lower Nihotutupu Reservoir
Arataki: Lower Nihotutupu Reservoir
This is one of five reservoirs in the ranges that supply water to the city. The construction of these dams drowned a lot of bush, but meant that large areas were strictly protected as water catchment. The Waitakere Ranges Regional parkland now encompasses them all. Nihotupu means broken teeth, though I don't know the significance here.
