Young Fur Seal resting
Mercer Bay: Young Fur Seal resting
A young New Zealand fur seal, Arctocephalus forsteri, hauled out on the rocks and having a bit of a rest. It wasn't particularly concerned by us, though when we were further down by the sea we saw it energetically flipper its way across the sand and into the water. Whenever a wave reached up the beach towards it, it would lower its head and snake forward like it was just longing to be in the water.
