So much ocean, so little (free) time.
As New Zealand is surrounded by the ocean and has a beautiful coastline,
there are lots of great places for sea-kayaking in New Zealand. We go
kayaking mostly on Auckland's Waitemata and Manukau harbours (yes, still
more pictures to put up and articles to write). This page will
definitely expand.

Motukorea
Motukorea is an island in the Hauraki Gulf, just outside Auckland's
Waitemata Harbour. It's a few hour's paddling there and back from Ferg's
Kayaks in Okahu Bay (although they do it much faster). One day we went
out and the water was like glass - these are the photographs.

Rangitoto
Rangitoto is also an island in the Hauraki Gulf, just outside Auckland's
Waitemata Harbour, but closer than Motukorea. It's a striking volcanic
cone that erupted out of the sea some 600 years ago. Ferg's Kayaks do a
guided full moon paddle over to the island, with a walk to the summit and
back. Some of the picures in this gallery were taken on a kayaking trip
to the island.

Marlborough Sounds
At the top of the South Island, the Marlborough Sounds are an extensive
system of drowned river valleys. Actually as the area is still subsiding,
they're still drowning. The inner and outer sounds offer safe or
adventurous kayaking. There are bush-clad bays, farms, backpackers
hostels, marine reserves and wildlife refuges.
